A word from Ticko
My work is all about something I don’t understand and a representation of my personal experience, what I am thinking and all the weird ideas in my brain. I use oil paint as a way to present my consciousness. But it is more than a painting, it is an experience, to both of me and the audience. Ever it is like a room and everything inside is freeze, the time stopped. And we are the only one who can walk around, explore and feel it.
To me, painting is a way to approach art. When I have an idea in my mind, I will be super excited about it. It is my own experience. The problem I faced was how to present my experience to the audience, not a storytelling way, but let the audience experience it. Therefore, painting is my way to present the experience, the form of experience.
When you are looking at my paintings, it is similar to visiting my studio. You will understand what I am doing and my aims. Please don’t take it as my most perfect, amazing painting, but please take it as my visual daily, I created lots of those paintings, or sketches, in order to create a bigger, better painting. Painting is not painting, but it is a book, a jourial of someone. Therefore, please read my painting.
There are a few reasons why Ukiyo-e become one of my inspirations. Besides colorful, the point of view to their daily life and the ways to present their ideas are, obviously new, also fresh to me. When you look at those printing (especially toy prints), it makes you feel like you are reading an archives of their daily life. After years of painting and i finally figure out what I really want to do, I want to create an archives of the things that I don’t understand. like after 20-30 years, when I or the audience look at my painting, I hope they are reading an archives of weird thought and crazy idea.
