artist biography: joyce vyvyann lim
Joyce Vyvyann Lim, graduated from the University of Kent, Canterbury, in the United Kingdom with a Master Degree in Graphic Fine Art. Over the past years she has exhibited in several galleries in the UK, such as the Mall Gallery in London, the Herbert Read gallery in Canterbury, the Singapore Art Museum in Singapore. In 1998, Joyce was invited to be one of the young artists to represent Singapore in "Second Nature: Cityscapes of Singapore" in Central Plaza, Hong Kong. This was organized by The Singapore Consulate General in Hong Kong jointly with the government of Hong Kong - a national accolade.
Joyce's works vary from traditional oil and acrylic painting to modern media such as photography, video film, digital art, mixed media and installation art. She is greatly influenced by artists like Picasso, Vincent Van Gogh, Nam June Paik, Jeff Koon and Damien Hirst. Joyce's art often depicts her observation of the different characteristics of human nature existing in her social milleu. She would re-invents characters of whom she would psycho- analyze and present them in a satirical way via metaphor conveyed through her art. Her visual language is often witty with a touch of sense of humour, explicitly crafted with much ingenuity.
In the series of the Inner Vs Outer, she invented 4 characters in society, Greedy Grant, Power Punch, Pretty Polly and Walkin Willie. She explored the Inner world of these characters.
